Unbelievable that, after a ten year long creative hiatus (well OK, there was the LP "Runen" and the CD "Idafeld", but both were reissues) a new VOXUS IMP album in the form of an energetic collaborative undertaking between Henryk Vogel (DARKWOOD), VE EUROPA, and Markus Wolff (WALDTEUFEL) has appeared.
From this paring comes a remarkably strong version of "Eibental" – sang by the Waldteufel himself. This is the hit and the catchiest piece of the album.
In any case, one should not lump the songs of this album altogether.
Next to well tried experiments and samples, adroitly staged and surprising twists await the listener.
This is the case with "Hinein ins Dunkel", were, upon the first listen, one is taken by surprise by the samples used.
"Fergunna" is more meditative, "Nibelheim" brings to mind the Wagnerian resonations of the project’s early work. "Abschied & Bevölkerung" musically brings the work since "Heiliges Europa" 7" full circle.
Bottomline: for fans of bold musical fanfare, experimental Neofolk, and strong violins.
